Business System Consultation Center - Our Business System ColumnVol.68 2016.10.01 Takahashi Minoru

What's wrong with old technology and old design?

Thank you for your interest and continued support.
This is Takahashi from the Marketing Plan Research Laboratory.

In the systems industry, there is a wonderful expression: “mature technology.”
It refers to “old technology” and “old designs.”

Old technology is technology that has been refined through years of troubleshooting and debugging.
Old designs are those that capture the essence of business, having withstood years of competition.

Engineers know from firsthand experience and intuition
Engineers know this from real-world experience and instinct.
The term "mature technology"
is an expression that sounds rather unpleasant, lacking any hint of freshness,
in the systems industry, the idea that anything remaining on the market for many years is inherently superior
and is often used as a term of praise among engineers.

If requested,
we will follow and preserve good systems based on old technologies and designs that no longer have maintainers.
We are also available to assist with such inquiries.
Please feel free to reach out to us.

That's all, Thank you for reading.
