・You receive emails containing drawings from major clients
・The drawings are sent as email attachments
・A password is required to open the attachment
・The password is sent in a separate email
⇒ Should we also set a password when sending attachments?
We occasionally receive inquiries like the one above,
but we tell them, “You don’t need that,” for the following reasons.
① If you set a password on an attachment, antivirus software will no longer scan it
② (It might make sense if you tell them over the phone, but) sending the password in a separate email is pointless
③ As you can see, major companies are being tricked by large system integrators into implementing irrational systems
④ Unless specifically requested by a business partner, we don’t need such a thing
Point ③ is particularly important.
If you think, “Since major companies do it, or since government agencies do it, there must be some validity to it,”
If you copy them thinking that, you’ll waste money and time.
