The employees least suited for remote work are the ones who want it most

This is Takahashi from the Marketing Plan Research Laboratory.


It’s something I hesitate to say openly, but
when it comes to remote work (telework),
there is a
in terms of their aptitude.


■ Suited for remote work
・Not involved in on-site work (desk work)
・Can plan the next steps independently and proceed with work
・Can provide work instructions to other employees in writing
・Can submit reports in writing
・Does not define work tasks arbitrarily
・Can say, “I have no work to do. I’m free,” when there is no work


■ Not suited for remote work
・It involves on-site work (※This is not the employee’s fault, so it cannot be helped)
・Complains about others’ work and wants others to assign tasks to them
・Has no qualms about pretending to be busy even when they’re not
・Lacks job-specific knowledge and requires training in that area
・Lacks a sense of belonging
・Lacks interpersonal skills


Even at companies where everyone currently works on-site,
they may eventually find themselves in a situation where some employees have no choice but to work remotely.


Since it’s difficult to say, “You’re not suited for remote work, so come to the office,”
it might be a good idea to start quietly preparing now
It might be a good idea to quietly start making these kinds of preparations now.
