Business System Consultation Center - Our Business System ColumnVol.88 2019.03.01 Takahashi Minoru

Exposing your own server to the public is an outdated approach

Thank you for your interest and continued support.
This is Takahashi from the Marketing Plan Research Laboratory.

Unless you’re a systems engineer,
to the public (on the Internet) to build a system is dangerous.
In recent years, even IT professionals have begun to avoid this approach.

In recent years, the malicious actors who create viruses
have shifted their motives from “pranks” to “financial gain.”
These criminals target servers that companies have made publicly accessible
a system that automatically performs a series of steps—including scanning for vulnerabilities, intrusion, virus propagation, and ransom demands—
(this is what a virus is).
If you become a target, it’s a real nightmare.

Limit server use to connecting offices via VPN,
and for external access, we recommend either setting up a dedicated data center
or utilize cloud servers.

That's all, Thank you for reading.
