Thank you for your interest and continued support.
This is Takahashi from the Marketing Plan Research Laboratory.
In these times of rapid IT revolution, many companies still use ADSL for their Internet connection.
We often receive the question, “Should we switch to fiber-optic internet?”
I’d like to share our perspective on this topic in this column.
In conclusion, I believe that "if it’s possible to switch, you should switch to fiber-optic internet as soon as possible."
I’m sure every employee has opportunities to use the internet for work.
(Just take a look at their computers—they’re probably always running Internet Explorer.)
Emails are also sent and received via the internet connection.
Fiber-optic internet reduces the wait time for these tasks.
Depending on the company, the extra labor costs incurred by the accumulation of those few seconds of waiting time per employee
could easily cover the monthly cost of a fiber-optic connection (which is only a few tens of thousands of yen).
In contrast, regarding the question, “Should we install wireless LAN (Wi-Fi)?”,
our answer is: “Unless there are compelling reasons, it’s better not to implement it.”
*Essential circumstances = situations where installing a wired LAN is difficult due to building layout or distance, or where various handheld devices are in use
Companies that ask this question
often fall into the category of “it doesn’t really matter whether we have wireless LAN or not,”
which is why we respond in this manner.
Since wireless LANs often lead to post-installation issues (such as connection failures, performance problems, or unauthorized external access),
we do not actively recommend it.
Fiber-optic internet is essential for modern businesses.
Why not give it some serious consideration?
That's all, Thank you for reading.
